Borrowed Beams / Invisible Hand - Split 7”

In the celebratory haze that surrounds the release of Invisible Hand’s debut LP, we’ve been a little slow to promote what I believe is both our best single yet, and Borrowed Beams’ debut on vinyl (much more from them later, I’m sure), a wonderfully orchestrated 4 song split, which also happens to be fairly limited. Most of you have picked up on the deal we’re offering in our store, but for those of you who’ve missed it, you can grab this EP with the Hand’s LP for $15, OR, for the die-hard Beams fans out there, we’re offering a free Beams CDEP with F/NF011 orders through next Wednesday (no special instructions, just look for it in the mail!). Head over to Borrowed Beams’ website for more information regarding their releases and upcoming plans.

Check out what Yvynyl, Weekly Tape Deck, No Fear of Pop, No Modest Bear, and the Cville have to say about this release.

You can also pick one of these up from Invisible Hand, who’re on tour now.

Order (F/NF011) Borrowed Beams of Light / Invisible Hand - Split 7” any time between today and next Wednesday, and receive a free copy of Borrowed Beams of Light’s Debut 6 song CDEP.

Matt Leech - 7"

“…Matt Leech recorded five songs of creative energy amounting to the “Empty House” EP. Shaving off the complex time signatures from the song structures employed in his now defunct band The Alphabet, Leech streamlines his workflow to pack all the intensity of an Alphabet song into mercurial catchy pop jams. What this man can do on GarageBand in a day outshines what most can do within a month. And it will be catchier than your song and will influence more kittens* than you.” -Jeff Byers, Leadbellies

Matt Leech sent me over  the title track from his upcoming 7” onFunny / Not Funny RecordsEmpty House yesterday and I’ve been really digging it. It’s full of fuzzy feel good garage vibes, reverb drenched vocal whine and some pretty stellar synth bits. Can’t wait for this vinyl. Empty House is out this July in a limited pressing of 300, so keep your eyes peeled. You can also pick up Matt’s cassette Sink for free over at the Funny / Not Funny shop.” -White Guys With Beards

Matt Leech hails from Harrisonburg, Virginia. His music is shimmering and full of echoes. You can feel yourself floating while listening. What does one do in Harrisonburg, Virginia? Besides try and stay cool, probably make hazy music and drink beers with friends while pondering what the hell is going on outside the bubble. This is not to put anyone down, but we all know that music that comes from a place without much, for lack of a better word, “culture,” is earthy, textured and made with survival in mind.Harrisonburg is right by the Shenandoah National Forest, however. And that must be pretty fucking nice. I’m a country mouse at heart. Leech has a 7″ out on Funny/Not Funny and here’s a track off of it, “Empty House.” Following in the vein of other reverb-heavy artists, Leech distinguishes himself. The melody is particularly catchy here, and many of his songs are just as enchanting. Easy listening, folks.” -Microphone Memory Emotion

“This tidy little number just graced my inbox. This is Empty House by Matt Leech which is the single from his new “7 Empty House (Bet you didn’t see that coming) which is getting released through Funny Not Funny Records. I love the breakdown about 1.25 in. Refreshingly addictive.” - Masses/Masses

“Empty House is a track from Matt Leechs’ upcoming 7” limited to just 300 copies onFunny/Not Funny Records. It’s full of fuzz and reverb which equates to a pretty sweet poppy garage track. ” - Salad Fork

“Funny/Not Funny Records head honcho Matt Leech has sent over the title track of his upcoming “Empty House EP” 7 inch out on what else but Funny/Not Funny Records. It is nice distorted lo-fi pop tune with epic guitars and sweet unartificial synth lines and a voice that sounds like Dylan from Cloud Nothings on helium. Seriously very excited for this seven inch. Anyone who loves this track like I do can pick up Leech’s messed up Sink cassette for free over at Funny/Not Funny Records right here.” - Creative Intersection
