Speakertree Records

Speakertree Records, located at 522 5th St. in Lynchburg, VA.
Times have been tough for my record collecting friends and I as of late. With Plan 9 Music closing in the spring of 2009, Harrisonburg record collectors have to drive an hour minimum to reach the nearest record store. With Record Store Day approaching, I figured it’s about time I highlight my favorite Virginia shop, Speakertree Records, owned and operated by a really great friend / fellow small-label upstart / DJ / tight dude Blair Amberly. Blair’s shop has a wonderful and diverse selection of new and used vinyl, which I’ve come to appreciate more with every record-store-less month that goes by. Speakertree is well worth the drive! I highly recommend making the trip.
Blair also just finished his first release under Speakertree, the debut LP for Cloud Nothings, a really wonderful rock band from Cleveland that’s currently EVERYWHERE (case and point while I was posting this Pitchfork just put up a review). Head to his site and pick up an LP, the first pressing is about to disappear completely. You can also check in our store, we’ll have a few copies of the first pressing in about a week or so.
Blair also just won a Record Store Day contest! The band Fucked Up held an open submission for photos, and picked the best 10 to go on their Record Store Day 7”. A photo he took of his 3-year-old equally awesome son Zhivan (check out a video of him jamming with The Ultra Dolphins here) mopping the store was chosen! How cool.
