Monthly Mixtape: Tucker Riggleman

Tucker Pho!

September 2012 from funnynotfunnyrecords on 8tracks Radio.

The Funny / Not Funny Records’ Monthly Mixtape installment for this month is curated by Tucker Riggleman of The Demon Beat.  He has crafted a mix that is a great soundtrack to play as fall envelops the Appalachian mountainside.

1. Asobi Seksu - “Sooner”
This band really covers a lot of ground, while going pretty unnoticed. Paul from Bishops turned me onto them. Great noisy shoegaze w/ some dream pop thrown in there.

2. The Tallest Man on Earth - “Bright Lanterns”
Almost everything this dude does reminds me of fall. This one off of his new record is no different.

3. Cory Branan - “Crackerjack Heart”
This guy is one of the best songwriters and performers alive. “Crackerjack Heart” has stuck with me for several years now. The way Cory describes the smallest moments is awesome.

4. The Okay Win - “Chase”
The Okay Win are some of my favorite dudes. Based out of Boston, Steve MacDonald and co. have been putting out some of the best indie rock records over the past few years. This is off of their free EP called “Leveled”.

5. Bon Iver - “Beach Baby”
In between his two massively successful full-lengths, Bon Iver released an EP called “Blood Bank”. It doesn’t get mentioned as often as the big ones, but songs like this one make it my favorite release by them.

6. Lucero - “Hold Fast”
Mostly known for their rowdy bar rockers, Lucero’s biggest strength might actually be their slow songs. Here’s a perfect example.

7. Hammer No More The Fingers - “Fingernails”
The Demon Beat has toured up and down the East Coast with these NC boys several times - they’re like brothers to us at this point. This is the awesome closer of their fantastic record “Black Shark”.

8. Future Islands - “Little Dreamer”
If you couldn’t tell, I’ve made this a pretty “fall-centric” mix. This song is simple, gorgeous, and definitely autumnal. Dig it.
