Funny / Not Funny Records is proud to announce that we will be helping to release “Hot Springs” an EP/LP by Borrowed Beams of Light. This 45rpm 12” will be the band’s fourth appearance on vinyl following a 12” comp put together by Harding Street Assembly Lab which you can purchase here, a 12” full length entitled “Stellar Hoax” which you can pick up in our distro here, and a split 7” with Invisible Hand released by F/NF which you can pick up here. Monthly Mixtape: Dave Gibson

In conjunction with the announcement of F/NF 020, Funny / Not Funny Record’s Monthly Mixtape installment this month is curated by Borrowed Beams of Light member Dave Gibson. Fleetwood Mac? Squeeze? Tastey Pop Jammers? We love it! and we think you are going to enjoy his selections as well!
1. California Jam - Klaatu
Good summertime jam as the title indicates. I think Adam Brock ripped this song off a little bit on the new EP. These guys were once believed to be the Beatles in disguise. If only….
2. Library Girl - Squeeze
Squeeze shows up a lot on these F/NF mixes and for a good reason: THEY ARE THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIME. So much so that Brock, Thomas Dean, and I are in a Squeeze cover band called SQUEEZEus. It’s all true. Look it up. A lesser known song that we don’t play. Wish we would.
3. The Drum - Slapp Happy
Tight jam from a band that had connections to both the Krautrock scene and the Canterbury prog scene, so they’re doubly cool. Brock only just heard those dudes recently. Sheesh…. Where’s that guy been?
4. Firecracker - Yellow Magic Orchestra
As the resident Beams synth-head I had to get one synth jam on here and it doesn’t get much better than this one by Japan’s own YMO. Go find the video of these guys playing this song on Soul Train. It’s the joint.
5. Glass House Green, Splinter Red - The Kinsmen
Don’t know much about these dudes but I do know this song rules. Recommended for all you Zombies nerdz out there.
6. Not That Funny - Fleetwood Mac
I’ve seen some songs from Tusk on these F/NF mixes before but surprisingly never this one. I mean, c’mon, the name of the label is practically in the title! I really wanted to cover this on the next Beams tour but no such luck. Maybe next time…
7. The Trains - The Nashville Ramblers
I think this is the only song these guys ever put out but you can’t really write a more perfect pop song so they probably figured their work was done. Released in the late ’70s but sounds like it’s straight out of ‘65. Also pretty misleading band name. There’s very little rambling going on here.
8. Pilgrims Progress - Greenslade
A jam that I think every member of the Beams can get behind. Epic riffs, stratospheric Mellotrons, insane time signatures, and, of course, a nasty synth solo. This WILL be played in the van soon…and often.
Borrowed Beams of Light / Naked Gods Hit The Road!
